A Walk In The Garden
A garden is a feast for all the senses. From a wild, blowsy rose cascading over a wall, to a delicate violet hiding at the edge of a path, I'm drawn to flowers. Of course, I love the myriad of colours and scents - but also the transient ethereal nature of blossom. Wherever I go, I search out new gardens to explore, and at home I spent many a happy hour drinking in the beauty of my own little patch. This series explores the peace and joy to be found in gardens.
Wandering Through The Landscape
I'm never happier than when I'm out and about in nature. Sitting under trees; skipping through meadows; wondering at the wildness of a moorland. All these places have the power to lift my spirits. The juxtaposition of light spilling onto the dark forest floor; the texture of bark; or the patchwork of fields falling away all bring me joy and inspiration. I've started carrying a journal just to try to capture these beautiful moments, ready to translate into the larger works of this series.
Seascapes
I'm drawn to the sea, I've always loved it. It doesn't matter if it's a beautiful calm day with the waves reflecting endless blue; or if the seas are stormy, grey and churning. I feel energised when I'm near the water. Some days I want to dance, skip, and jump the waves. Other days I just want to sit and contemplate. This series reflect all of these sensations.
Light Through Darkness
I worked on this series during the 2020/2021 lockdowns. I wanted to explore the idea that even in the darkest times, there are moments when chinks of light shine through. Moments where spirits are lifted by the small things, like the kindness of a stranger; a wildflower growing on a patch of wasteland; or a moment with a loved one.
